Corporate Farm Management
AgricultSURE has vast experience on planning and implementing farming operations of different scale, structure and focus. The ability to locate proper sustainable natural resources is a key component to ensure that farming operations can be successfully sustained. By holistically considering all resources exposure to risks can be proactively mitigated. Through a process of combining and balancing these resources optimally in a sustainable way, the outcome can be prolific. With more than 20 years of experience in corporate management of large scale commercial farming projects with multiple units spread across the country being subjected to punctual processing off-taker commitments, we can add value to most commercial farming operations.
Emerging Farmer Support
During the 2013/14 season we have assisted 15 emerging farmers in the Northwest Province, planting 2,500 ha Sunflower. The following year in 2014/15 we have supported 105 emerging farmers in the Northwest Province planting 11,500 ha (4,000 ha Maize and 7,500 ha Sunflower) – the outcome was a return in crop value of more than double the input value. A complete service is rendered which include the following:
- Selection of fields
- Contracting suppliers of land preparation and planting services
- Supplying Seed, Fertilizer and Chemicals
- Extension services
- Marketing produce
The outcome during the 2014/15 season was extremely good, but due to our close interaction with long term weather forecasting specialists and the consequential outcomes of the following seasons, at the time, it was decided not to focus on dryland crop production in the NWP as our main focus.
Small Farmer Development
AgricultSURE is involved with the development of small farmers since 2013 in countries in southern Africa focussing mainly on horticultural and agronomic crops. These countries mainly include South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Zambia, Namibia, Angola, Malawi, DRC, Uganda, Mozambique and Lesotho.
The process involves the assessment of natural resources, compilation of a production and business plan as well as implementation and ongoing technical support.
The success of small farmer projects is overwhelming and the short time frame in which these farmers grow to a level of consistent supply of quality crop to even justify the development of processing facilities is highly underestimated.
A key element involves the application of regenerative and conservation farming practices and as the global pressure rises on food security it is vital to ensure the sustainability of the larger water bodies in neighbouring African countries.
As part of our initiative to promote small farmer development, AgricultSURE, focus much on the optimization of these farmers by equipping them with cost effective input and equipment such as our starter pack combo’s.
As part of our commitment to make food an accessible commodity to every individual we have developed a range of DIY seed kits as part of our FoodSTEPS brand. These kits, which include various seed and fertilizer varieties, as well as planting utensils and illustrated guides are simple to use and can be rolled out as school and community projects.
These units are modularly designed and now also have the option to be equipped with an irrigation system to ensure better crop performance.
