Food security is the availability of sufficient, safe, and nutritious food for all people at all times. It encompasses four dimensions: availability, access, utilization, and stability. Though food security is a complex issue, AgricultSURE believes that, the training of households on growing their own crops, is a simple but effective starting point.

Food security is a state in which all people, at all times, have physical, social, and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. However, it is estimated that about 14 million people in South Africa go without food for some days of the week and that leads to feelings of resentment, anger, disappointment, frustration and hopelessness. Heads of households are then forced to consider all kinds of ways to find means to buy food which in extreme cases include the harvesting of state and private infrastructure.
The conditions in South Africa and many other neighbouring countries are not endorsing an environment which is conducive to food security. Therefore AgricultSURE has taken up a position to find and develop long term, low cost, high output solutions by engaging established agribusinesses and other partners who shares the same level of commitment to address food security at root level, which starts at home. We strive towards teaching every member of the household on how to grow their own crops.
It is our policy to find a balance between good quality and an acceptable price structure. We have seen many cases across Africa where dedicated individuals, using their bare hands as tools to cultivate and plant fields, have elevated themselves from poverty and became self-sustainable to provide for their families. Agriculture remains a noble a trade which offers an escape from destitute and impoverished conditions to life of constructive and functional work and food production, but there are no shortcuts, and it is all about being smart and being prepared to work hard.
We have therefore developed our products and services to be an extension of this approach, in order to equip the farmer with a complete selection of quality essential crop input at an affordable price. We have also designed the products to be scalable to accommodate a step by step growth and exposure to new tech and added equipment. There is nothing more rewarding to us than a farmer who paid his/her small farmer irrigation starter pack off in a single season instead of two seasons, or a household who bought a vegetable home garden starter pack and harvested a crop, which is valued at five times more the cost paid. We want to thank in advance each and every farmer and client across the African subcontinent who considers farming with our products and services.
AgricultSURE, a South African small-scale farmer developer, joined forces with Laeveld Agrochem for the popular televised Niche Farmers series. Airing since August 2022, the series showcases local up-and-coming farmers using innovative methods for food production. It features diverse farming enterprises, from hydroponic rooftops to greenhouses, highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit of South African farmers.
AgricultSURE and Laeveld Agrochem hope that Niche Farmers will inspire others to start their agri-businesses, promoting a wide range of food production opportunities for universal food security in the country and region. The series also emphasizes the significance of commercial farming and creating jobs in the agricultural industry. AgricultSURE collaborates with small-scale farmers and community gardening projects to implement sustainable projects across the region.
